This Is Home, Truly

A day that shall be remembered and embedded in the minds of those who witnessed. A day where the air was full of respect for a man who was responsible in laying the foundations. He was the Founding Father of Modern Singapore. Modern Singapore because the founder of this little island if history was correct was, Sang Nila Utama. However this man that we mourn for today and the past week, he played an important role in nation building. For without his effort as well as his team, this country would not be where it is today. Yes, he may be iron-fisted in his decisions, but I bet in every decision that he made, it was for the benefit of the country itself. Critics would be fast to jump in the wagon of nay-saying but I believe each of his policies were well thought of and that without his foresight in wanting to make this country a better place for all to live in, we would not have been where we are today. He promised and he delivered.

But apart from that, it was his devotion to his wife that struck me, what a great man he was. Even when he has everything, and could have anything, his love for his wife does not falter. Such loving couple. I remembered reading one of his book back in secondary school and had read details of how he tried to woo her. He was a determined man. And then, that picture of him giving his last kiss while his wife was lying in the coffin, tucked me at the heart the most.

Thank you for your heart, soul and mind in serving the people whom you do not even know personally but you sacrificed for. In living and breathing Singapore.

Remembering LKY.

Yours Truly,
HASYiMAH
